A satellite identifies tank tracks in the dirt, and a mall security camera catches the moment a bomb in Gaza detonates. While journalists' access to the war in Gaza is limited, a flood of video from all sorts of sources documents what is — and isn't — going on. That means combing through an endless supply of video posted on sources like X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Telegram and Facebook. Sometimes images from video games are passed off as real, but experts can usually spot them. Satellite images, video and photos helped The Washington Post track where Israeli forces went during their initial incursion into Gaza.

Why TV news executives are having a brutal year in 2023
  + stars: | 2023-08-14 | by ( Oliver Darcy | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
In his place, CBS announced Monday that Wendy McMahon will be chief executive and president of CBS News, the network’s local stations, and CBS Media Ventures. The formidable task is reflective of the extraordinary challenges traditional media outlets are facing amid a period of rapid and existential change to their business models and advertising woes. Increasingly, there is no longer a single powerful media executive tasked with solving for the less-than-ideal set of circumstances. The industry veteran noted that there is less of a focus on making splashy — perhaps at times risky — moves to build for the future among the C-suite ranks. Instead, there is a mounting emphasis on slashing costs to best position the mammoth media companies for the inevitable decline of linear television.

He has signed a multiyear deal to develop content for the conglomerate, including documentaries, series and books. “It’s an opportunity that will allow me to write, report and develop stories that I’ve long wanted to pursue,” Mr. Khemlani said in the email. He had been co-head of the news division with the local news veteran Wendy McMahon, who will remain in her role.

During his tenure, Khemlani bolstered CBS News’ reporting ranks, luring prominent journalists such as Robert Costa and Cecilia Vega to the outlet. The talks are leading to speculation about potential changes for CBS star anchors Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell. CBS News is mulling changes to its talent lineup. One plugged-in TV executive hears that CBS is looking to create a broader or cross-company deal for King, though. CBS News is also circling NBC talent including MSNBC host Brian Williams and "Today" co-anchor Craig Melvin. A CBS executive shot down speculation, saying: "No one on that list is moving forward into an anchor job here, and Bill Whitaker already has one of the best anchor jobs in the business."
